About
Caerphilly was once a market town and produced and sold Caerphilly Cheese by the truckle load. Today the traditional Caerphilly Cheese recipe is used by Cheese Makers Caws Cenarth and can be purchased at COFFI VISTA at the Visitor Centre, opposite Caerphilly Castle.
Caerphilly Castle was built in 1268 and has a colourful and interesting past. With leaning tower that out leans that of Pisa and a moat that stretches around the Castle making it the largest moated castle in the UK and second largest castle in Britain after Windsor. Visitors can explore the Castle grounds and towers along with seeing the dragons in the pit and experience Gilbert's Maze.
Caerphilly Bus and Train Station is just a few minutes walk from the town centre with trains running every 15 minutes to and from Cardiff. The journey time is just 15 minutes to central Cardiff.
Caerphilly hosts many events and festivals, its most well known being The big Cheese Festival which takes place at the end of July every year. Over 70,000 people visit the festival over 3 days and enjoy crafts, food halls, medieval re-enactments, music, funfair and lots more.
