Explore the Aberdyfi Circular Trail in Southern Snowdonia
Aberdyfi, located in southern Snowdonia, is a charming seaside town with a lot to offer, including a stunning sandy beach, medieval castle site, and tales of sunken villages. It's also home to a series of circular walks offering visitors the chance to explore the Wales Coast Path while appreciating the natural beauty, cultural heritage, and adventure opportunities available in nearby towns and villages.
Starting and finishing in Aberdyfi, this circular trail takes you through some of the area's most scenic spots. Conveniently, there are local amenities including toilets on the seafront and a variety of shops, cafes and pubs in the town providing food and refreshments.
Exploring the Trail
Start your walk from the Aberdyfi seafront car park and head to the west of the town, passing below the railway bridge. A signpost marks the start of the trail, with the path initially climbing above the town past the supposed site of a castle.
Continue westwards around the summit of the hill to Trefeddian Farm and onwards until you follow the line of a small river past the southern edge of the farmyard at Crychnant. The trail has some manageable uphill sections and a reasonable descent on the return leg.
Make sure to look out for the signage for the Wales Coast Path, as you will leave the road and descend back to Aberdyfi along this route. Along the way, enjoy the breathtaking views of the Dyfi estuary and Cambrian coast.
Adhere to the Countryside Code
As with any outdoor activity, it's important to respect the environment and adhere to the Countryside Code at all times. This includes following designated paths and routes, keeping dogs under control, and taking all litter home with you.
So, if you're looking for a short but scenic walk in southern Snowdonia, the Aberdyfi Circular Trail is a fantastic option. Make sure to bring your OS Map: 1:25 000 scale Explorer Map OL23. SH613 959 and enjoy everything this charming coastal town has to offer.
