About

Built in the 13th century by Sir John Wogan, his direct descendants still use the Castle as their family home. The medieval castle was modernised in the 1750s above the undercroft and extended around 1790 with fine Georgian interiors.

The 40 acres of walled and woodland gardens are part of the Royal Horticultural Society access scheme for beautiful gardens. There is a unique collection of rhododendrons and azaleas, mature trees, unusual shrubs, wild flowers, fern walk, fernery, maze, restored dew pond, a herb collection labelled with medicinal remedies and a children's nature trail.

Gardens

The Woodland Gardens around Picton Castle extend to about 40 acres. There is a maze planted in 1992 and also a picnic area.
