Exploring the Wales Coast Path from Aberystwyth to Borth: A Scenic Walk with Historical Significance
If you're looking for a short, yet picturesque walk along the coast, the Wales Coast Path from Aberystwyth to Borth is an ideal option. This 5-mile (8 km) section is a delightful path, albeit with one or two hills to conquer. The path begins at the top of Constitution Hill in Aberystwyth and winds its way through Clarach, eventually reaching the charming coastal resort of Borth.
Discovering the Petrified Forest and the Legend of Cantre’r Gwaelod
As you head north from Clarach towards Borth, be sure to keep an eye out for the sunken forests, which are visible during low tide. According to local legend, these forests are part of the lost land of Cantre’r Gwaelod, a mythical kingdom that was swallowed by the sea. The legend tells of how the guardian of the sea defences, Seithenyn, failed to close the gates, leading to the kingdom's downfall. In some versions of the myth, the forest stretched for over 20 miles to the west of Cardigan Bay.

The entire walk from Aberystwyth to Borth can be completed within two hours, making it a perfect way to spend a morning or afternoon. If you plan to walk in one direction only, you can easily complete the circuit by taking either the train or number 4 bus between Borth and Aberystwyth.
