About
Each year sees the Aberystwyth Christmas Tree lit up to celebrate the arrival of the Lantern Parade which makes its way down from St Michael’s Church, Laura Place to Owain Glyndwr Square. The procession is led by a specially chosen Mary and Joseph each Christmas with followers carrying their wonderful lantern creations glimmering and shining like stars in the dark evening.
In readiness for the Lantern Parade, weekend workshops are held which are open to all, at no charge for entrance or materials, to enable both children and adults alike to create their lanterns with expert tuition on hand.
Entertainment takes place in Owain Glyndwr Square; there are market stalls and of course mulled wine and mince pies are available. As the Christmas Tree is lit there’s an open air carol service which tells everyone that Christmas is very nearly upon us.
