The Smallholding & Countryside Festival is a celebration of rural life with smallholding pursuits at its heart. The weekend-long event held at the Royal Welsh Showground is a showcase of the real diversity of the Welsh countryside and a fantastic day out for young families, garden enthusiasts and anyone with an interest in the great outdoors.
With a full packed programme of livestock and equine competitions, over 200 tradestands, displays and activities, excellent food and drink – there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Join us at the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells on May 18th and 19th for a weekend celebrating rural life at its finest!
Event Highlights:
Smallholding Spectacular: Immerse yourself in the heart of smallholding pursuits, showcasing the rich diversity of the Welsh countryside.
Livestock and Equine Competitions: With over 600 classes and special awards for traditional, rare, and native breeds, there's something for everyone! Entries open until April 3rd.
Qualifiers for Prestigious Shows: This year, we're hosting qualifiers for the BSHA Royal International Horse Show, SSADL, BSPS, and BSHA London International Horse Show.
Premier Open Dog Show: Enter the 2025 Crufts Qualifier for a chance to win rosettes, prize money, and quality pet food. Postal entries close April 9th, online entries close April 30th.
Educational & Networking: Visit the Smallholders Centre for talks and demos from the Glamorgan Smallholders group, and stock up on essentials at agricultural trade stands.
Country Life Area: Enjoy entertainment from Panic Family Circus, The Woodville Medieval Re-enactment Group, petting farms, forestry competitions, and more, accompanied by live music.
Festival Display Ring: Thrilling displays from Dangerous Steve’s stunt show, Paws for Thought Dog Display Team, show jumping, Scurry Driving, and sheepdog demonstrations.
Meirionnydd Shearing Centre: Witness wool handling and blade shearing competitions, demonstrations from the Gwent Guild of Spinners and Weavers, and vintage shearing displays.
Food & Drink Galore: Sample the best of Welsh produce at the Food Hall and enjoy bites from food stalls in the Welsh Food Village, Gwledd | Feast.
