Gwerniago Camping Site

About

Gwerniago campsite is located in the heartland of rural Wales, located on a working farm run by a welsh speaking family. The campsite is situated just outside the village of Pennal in the beautiful Dovey Valley.

Gwerniago has a large camping area of approximately five acres.  Campers are allowed to select their own non-electric pitches, these are not marked out . At busy times pitches with electricity will be allocated.

Our facilities block is centrally situated at the campsite and comprises of toilets, showers and a dishwashing area which are all free to use.

Our communal cabin has fridges and freezers available for use and has a seating area with plenty of information about the local vicinity. We have also recently installed a coin operated clothes washing and drying facility.

Campfires are allowed in baskets off the ground, which are available to borrow at reception with the purchase of logs.

The campsite is situated 3 miles from Machynlleth, a historic market town. The seaside village of Aberdyfi renowned for its famous golf course, harbour and beach is a 15 minute drive away. Pennal village is within easy walking distance, where you’ll be greeted with a community-run pub that serves food and drink. Pennal has strong links to Welsh history that includes Owain Glyndwr and Lleucu Llwyd. It’s a 20 min drive to Talyllyn pass to watch the Mach loop. The popular Dyfi Bike Park is just a short 10 minute drive from the campsite.

The campsite is popular with walkers, cyclists, individuals, couples and families; the site offers elevated views over the Dovey Valley, woodlands, and a riverside walk.

There are several sporting activities within easy reach of the campsite, Clay Pigeon Shooting (Brynmelin), Downhill Moutain Bike Tracks (Dyfi Bike Park), Paddle Board hire and tuition (Let’s SUP), Swimming & Leisure centre (Bro Ddyfi Leisure Centre Machynlleth, Bro Dysynni Leisure Centre Tywyn).

The local area also caters for less energetic activities with its miles of golden beaches, historical attractions, country walks and endless supplies of peace and quiet. The area around the farm is ideally suited for bird watching and walking. Some of our regular visitors are Red Kites. It is possible to see the Dovey Ospreys's nest from the campsite with a good pair of binoculars, and we are a 20 minute drive from the Ynyshir RSPB nature reserve.
