View at dawn from Pen-y-Bont Hotel. Talyllyn.

About

The Pen-y-Bont Hotel has spectacular views across Llyn Mwyngil (Talyllyn Lake), near Cader Idris in southern Eryri (Snowdonia). Little has changed here over the centuries since the Pen-y-Bont Hotel first welcomed travellers. We make a great base from which to explore the beauty and variety of the local countryside.  Whether you have a taste for mountain walking, hidden castles, waterfalls or beautiful beaches, we will be delighted to put you on the right track!

All five letting rooms overlook St. Mary’s church and the magnificent sweeping slopes of Craig Goch. Each room is named after a local historical character from the Talyllyn area. We provide a booklet for you to read in your room, which will tell you their individual stories.  We serve a full Welsh Cooked Breakfast, including cereals, tea, coffee, fruit juice and toast as required.  There is also an Alternative breakfast of Line - caught Smoked Haddock. Vegetarian and Vegan options are also always available.  We serve local bottled Real Ales from Bragdy Mws Piws - Purple Moose Brewery based in Porthmadog – and other Welsh Ales.  Sit back and relax in the outdoor setting of our Garden Courtyard or stunning Lakeside Beer Garden.

The Pen-y-bont has a large Car Park that extends along the lake shore, so there is plenty of room for you when you arrive. Guests who are staying in rooms park for free.

Non-resident Parking
Non-residents there is a parking charge of £5.00 for the afternoon and £10 for overnight parking.

Map & Directions

Road Directions

From Machynlleth, the North or the Midlands: please.turn onto the B4405 from the A487 towards Tywyn and the Talyllyn Railway and continue on around the lake. You will see us on the right hand side at the the far end of Talyllyn Lake (that's the South West shore.) Ignore your Sat Nav if it tells you to leave the main road (we are on the main road). From the coast. Turn towards Talyllyn from the A493 at Bryncrug, onto the B4405. Continue for 8 miles and we are on the left hand side immediately at the lake.

Public Transport Directions

There are two local train stations, one at Machynlleth and another at Tywyn, both part of the beautiful Cambrian Coast rail line.  We have Bus Stops directly outside the Hotel on the B4405, travelling both directions towards Tywyn and Machynlleth/Dolgellau.  The G24 bus service is very reliable but please check the bus times carefully! Taxis can be booked to get to us from either direction.  Here are a few examples:  Tywyn Cabs 07873401400    Peters Taxis 01654 749065  Mach Taxis 01654 702048. There is the Talyllyn Railway nearby in Abergynolwyn, the oldest restored narrow gauge railway in the world! Of course, you would have to travel the three miles to Abergynolwyn first, but it is a great day out in itself!
