Wool and Textile Heritage

Arfon Hughes has been guiding visitors on walks in the Dyfi valley for a number of years and one of the main local industries was wool cloth manufacturing. Sheep has been an important industry in the area for centuries and the Dinas Mawddwy Fairs were famous across Wales. From the 3 storey Wyle Cope loom house in the village of Dinas Mawddwy to the large water mill of Dolobran, and Meirion Mill ex slate splitting shed where the Meirionnydd Farmers formed the woollen mill co-op in the 50’s to the current wool packing shed of Wool Producers Of Wales next door. Dinas Mawddwy has been associated with the wool production industry as its natural sheep rearing country. Arfon will tell you the story of wool in the area from it’s early beginnings to an international industry. Find out more by visiting Teithiau Cerdded Dyfi Walking Tours on Facebook or ring Arfon on 07426914442.

Mae Arfon Hughes wedi bod yn tywys ymwelwyr ar deithiau cerdded yn nyffryn Dyfi ers nifer o flynyddoedd ac un o’r prif ddiwydiannau lleol oedd gweithgynhyrchu brethyn gwlân. Mae defaid wedi bod yn ddiwydiant pwysig yn yr ardal ers canrifoedd ac roedd Ffeiriau Dinas Mawddwy yn enwog ledled Cymru. O dŷ gwŷdd 3 llawr Wyle Cope ym mhentref Dinas Mawddwy i felin ddŵr fawr Dolobran, a hen sied hollti llechi Melin Meirion lle ffurfiodd Ffermwyr Meirionnydd y gydweithfa felin wlân yn y 50au i'r sied pacio wlân bresennol Cynhyrchwyr Gwlân Cymru drws nesaf. Mae Dinas Mawddwy wedi bod yn gysylltiedig â'r diwydiant cynhyrchu gwlân gan ei fod yn ardal naturiol i fagu defaid. Bydd Arfon yn adrodd hanes gwlân yr ardal o’i ddechreuadau cynnar i ddiwydiant rhyngwladol.
