Walking down the lane alongside the farm in winter. Snow and frost over the hills.

About

Nannerth Fawr Farm is a traditional working farm with 200 acres of wonderful countryside to explore. The farm lies at about 900 feet in the upper Wye Valley, just to the north west of the market town of Rhayader or Rhaeadr Gwy, in the old county of Radnorshire. This is an unspoilt area in an uncrowded environment where traditional family farms shape the landscape. We are in a designated dark skies area where you can see the milky way, asteroids and sometimes the aurora borealis.

Nannerth is a working farm in the heart of Wales in ‘kite country’ and has it's own private nature reserve. It is surrounded by the Cambrian mountains and moors of Plynlimon (Pumlumon). Behind the farm rise the high hills of the Elan Valley moorland, while to the south and east the winding river Wye borders almost 2 miles of our valley pastures and meadows.

The lawned garden is at the side of the cottage and adjoins the children's play area. Between the cottages is the old farmyard garden which is an attractive area for visitors to access the other guest facilities. Set at the heart of our working farm, you can see the animals and poultry from your windows and join in farm activities if you wish. The Granary has lovely views across the meadows to the river Wye. The kitchen, fitted with modern units and flooring is sleek and convenient, while the bathroom  has a solid wood floor and bath with shower over. The spacious bedroom has a Victorian double brass bed and the bed settee in the sitting room provides extra bedspace if required. ALYS THE GYSPSY CARAVAN
Traditional bow top Romany waggon with its detailed paintings of birds, animals and fruit, on gaily coloured yellow and red paintwork. The caravan has a very comfortable double bed, with traditional cupboards and drawers for storage.  The living area has seating with padded cushions and a large beanbag  and the split half glazed doors give light to the sitting area and views of the hills beyond.  There is electric heating and the cast iron chiminea can be lit as an outdoor fire or used as a barbecue.

GREAT FOR KIDS:
Children are very welcome at Nannerth. Friendly animals that can be handled and fed and at lambing time, children with their parents can watch lambs being born and sometimes help in moving new lambs and their mothers. Bottle feeding 'sucky lambs' is very popular and most years we have 2 or 3 lambs on the bottle between late March and late May. The Boer goats are very friendly and their kids are incredibly playful during the spring months. Whilst accompanied by their parents, children can play out in the fields, climb trees and explore the riverside.

GREAT FOR WILDLIFE:
Nannerth Fawr Farm is a 200 acre conservation farm where traditional farming, wildlife and biodiversity are all prioritised. Between 50 and 60 species of birds are seen each year in the varied habitats on the farm and these include pied flycatchers, redstarts, dippers, cuckoos, barn owls and red kites. We have over 100 bird boxes in the woodland, wetlands and farmyard and there is good birdwatching from the cottage gardens. The farm has a flock of Welsh mountain sheep and a small flock of Boer goats. The farm trail takes you through the farm, along the River Wye and up onto the open moorland. The private nature reserve has resident water voles and 17 species of dragonfly and damselfly. You can watch badgers from our tree house hide as they come out to feed beneath you. A magical experience.

GREAT FOR GROUPS & GET -TOGETHERS
Holiday properties can accommodate up to 14 people in 3 self catering properties. This is useful for providing quiet spaces and several bathrooms, which suits mixed generation groups. The 3 hot tubs are popular with groups and the communal garden area between the cottages can be used for barbecues
