A visit to New Quay is all about feeling the sand between your toes. New Quay sandy beaches extend in an arc around the bay, and in the small harbour you'll find boats to take you on a dolphin spotting trip in Cardigan Bay.

New Quay marks the half way point on the Wales Coast Path and the great Welsh poet, Dylan Thomas enjoyed a few pints in the local. Definitely time for a visit.

New Quay is a place to visit any time of the year. Walk along the seafront to the end of the Quay and just watch the boats sail by. Or just sit back and enjoy one of the cafes overlooking the harbour.

Until the stone harbour was built in 1835, New Quay had just a few thatched cottages hugging the coast. After the harbour was built, a modest ship building industry started to grow, declining towards the end of the 19th century. Today, the town still retains its identity as a seafaring centre.

The town has narrow streets rising in terraces - between several of which were 'ropewalks' for twisting rope in New Quay's heyday as a shipbuilding centre.

From the harbour, you'll see the dolphins most days in the summer. Other wildlife in the area includes rare chough, red kite, seabirds and grey seals. There are many unique wild flowers along the coastal path and marine life in the rock pools along the coast.

During the summer months, New Quay is a busy holiday resort with sailing, fishing, water sports and relaxation among the main attractions.

The Black Bull, New Quay is where Dylan Thomas, the great Welsh Poet, first got the idea for 'Quite early one morning' ......which eventually became 'Under Milk Wood'. There is a plaque on the wall inside the pub, above where he sat. Dylan visited New Quay frequently and stayed here in the town in 1944/45 which was one of the most prolific periods of his writing career.
