All of the reservoirs are easily accessible with ample car parking.

Due to the fantastic scenery and variety of wildlife including Red Kites, Buzzards, Peregrine Falcons, Kestrels, Sparrow Hawks and numerous other species, the Elan Valley is as much an attraction for its beauty as it is for its fishing. An extensive visitors centre is situated at the entrance to the Elan Valley with excellent facilities including a café / restaurant, museum, displays, film shows, shop, tourist information centre and toilets.

The Elan Valley Reservoirs are Troutmaster Waters and have hosted the Welsh National Bank Fly fishing Championships on many occasions.

LLYNGWYN LAKE
Llyngwyn is a 16 acre spring fed natural lake situated in a secluded area 3 miles east of Rhayader. The lake varies in depth, from shallow margins to 55 feet at its deepest. There are two sheds available for shelter at the lake and also toilet facilities.

Llyngwyn is mainly a Rainbow water but there are also some Brown Trout. The lake is stocked regularly with Rainbows upwards of 2 lbs and is a Troutmaster Water, open all the year. Fly fishing only for Trout. There are three rowing boats in the boathouse at the water's edge, which are available from Nantynynach Farm, Nr Llyngwyn for anglers to hire by the day.

RIVER FISHING ON WYE, MARTEG & ELAN
The fishing on the Wye stretches from 1 mile south of Rhayader to approximately 4 miles north of the town. The A470 / A44 trunk road runs along the whole of the stretch of water making it easily accessible. Excellent Brown Trout and Grayling fishing is available. Apart from the natural head of Brown Trout the river is stocked. The Wye is also renowned for its Salmon fishing with the Salmon reaching the upper parts of the Wye towards the end of the Season.

The River Marteg is a small stream and runs into the River Wye 3 miles north of Rhayader. This is a 3 mile stretch of water with both banks owned by the Rhayader and Elan Valley Angling Association, running from St. Harmon, on the B4518, down to its junction with River Wye, on the A470. This supports a good stock of small wild Brown Trout and is famous for its run of spawning Salmon in the autumn.

Elan River is one of the main tributaries of the Upper Wye running from the Elan Valley Reservoirs and joining the Wye 1½ miles south of Rhayader. The fishing on the Elan extends to approximately 2 miles running alongside the B4518 west of Rhayader. The Elan provides excellent opportunity for catching Pike, Grayling and Brown Trout. When the water in the Wye is too high for fishing, the Elan provides a good alternative as the level of water in this river is regulated by the Elan Valley Dams.
