About
The Pines & Shells Trail is a circular 4 miles walk through Pembrey Forest that starts at Pembrey Country Park Visitor Centre, turning right from the beach path to follow the wide, straight woodland ride. The walk is very well waymarked and can be done with or without the accompanying leaflet that is available from the Visitor Centre.
This waymarked trail is graded as Moderate will take around 2 1/2 hours to comlete. It starts beyond car park 1 in Pembrey Country Park. From the corner of the car park walk down the gravel track to the information panel at the start of the trail. The trail follows sandy tracks and forest roads through the forest. There are picnic tables and benches along the route.
The trail goes through the forest, following some of the former ammunition factory’s train tracks. Some of the factory’s small bunkers and curved blast tunnels are still present and we have bricked up the entrances of some to provide homes for horseshoe bats. Keep an eye-out for orchids and other wild flowers lining the path in late spring and early summer.
Occasionally the site is closed in extreme weather, such as high winds or snow and ice due to the risk of injury to visitors or to undertake maintenance work or forest operations. Please always follow any instructions onsite and make sure you follow any temporary diversion signs in place.
