This small, picturesque National Trust beach, backed by steep grassy cliffs, is on the Lleyn peninsula, north of Aberdaron. It’s known as ‘Whistling Sands’ based on the sound when you walk over the gleaming sand. The sound is created due to the shear stress of weight that is put upon the sand; there are only two beaches in the whole of Europe where you can experience this for yourselves. The nearest car park is 200 yards/180m away, though that doesn’t prevent it from being popular with families enjoying a day out. The views from the sands - and the many local footpaths – are stunning. Water sports include diving, sailing and surfing, though care must be exercised since conditions can change quickly.

Road Directions
From Caernarfon follow the A487 then B4417 through Nefyn and Tudweiliog. At the T-junction at Pen y Groeslon, turn right and after 0.5 mile follow signposted minor road on the right. If travelling from Pwllheli, follow the A499 to Llanbedrog then B4413 to Pen y Groeslon before following signposted minor road to right.
The nearest railway station is Pwllheli, which is 16 miles away.
