About

Newtown, Powys, in the heart of mid-Wales on the banks of the River Severn, is set in some of Mid Wales most attractive countryside and one of the best ways to enjoy this scenery is on foot.

Walking Newtown have developed a series of walks in and around the Newtown area. The walks are all graded and vary from easy to strenuous, town trails, short strolls and accessible trails.

All walks are on Public Rights of Way passing through community woodlands, nature reserves, riverside footpaths, canal tow-paths, and rolling hills in the beautiful Montgomeryshire countryside. Routes are graded by length, time and how easy they are to do. Interesting features and historical facts are highlighted in the walk descriptions, but the main pleasure is simply in getting out there.

The walks start and end near the centre of Newtownwhich has good bus and rail links to other towns and cities. Your walk can be rounded off with shopping, tea, lunch or a pint. The OS maps that cover these walks are OS Explorer Map 214 – Llanidloes & Newtown & OS Explorer Map 215 – Newtown & Machynlleth.
