About

Established in 1832, the Ffestiniog Railway is the world's oldest narrow gauge railway with almost 200 years of history. Its historic trains take visitors on a journey full of wonderful views from the harbour at Porthmadog to the slate quarry town of Blaenau Ffestiniog

The Ffestiniog Railway in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park is the oldest independent railway company in the world. The company was established by an act of parliament in 1832, and has undergone considerable change since King William IV put his name on that historic document.  The railway has been running passenger trains since 1865– of course, there have been many changes to locomotives and carriages, and many different liveries, over the years.

In the heart of Eryri (Snowdonia), the historic trains climb over 700 feet from sea level into the mountains through tranquil pastures and magnificent forests, past lakes and waterfalls, round horseshoe bends (even a complete spiral) clinging to the side of the mountain or even tunnelling through it.

Single trip 1 hour and 10 minutes, return trip 2 hours and 30 minutes. Group rates available, advanced group booking essential.
