About

Jacob Sheep Trekking and Farm Experience Days is a family run business based at Aberhyddnant Organic farm in the Brecon Beacons. If you are looking to escape and enjoy the countryside in the company of a friendly woolly companion then this is perfect for you.

Enjoy a scenic walk through Welsh countryside with your very own specially trained Jacob sheep, a small pony or goat for a walk. In spring, Lambing Experience Days are held in late March/early April, and throughout the year you can take or learn a new skill in the felting workshop.

Experience Days include:

JACOB SHEEP TREKKING
As you meander around the farm you can stroke, cuddle and feed your sheep and capture that perfect #SheepSelfie.

LAMBING EXPERIENCE DAYS
This is the perfect gift for a sheep lover. Experience a ‘no holds barred’ day in the life of an organic sheep farmer during lambing in the beautiful Brecon Beacons. The day involves helping with daily tasks around the farm, moving and checking sheep and lambs, feeding orphaned lambs and, although we cannot make any promises, we try to organise our lambing days at peak lambing time to increase your chances of witnessing a lamb being born. A tasty homemade lunch is included and after the day you are free to walk around the farm to enjoy the stunning views if you wish or collect fresh eggs from the chickens.

JUNIOR FARMER LAMBING EXPERIENCE
Do you know a budding mini farmer or want a family day out at lambing time this is perfect. An experience for children age 12 and under you will spend time exploring the farm and seeing all the newborn lambs before heading to the shed to bottle feed the orphan lambs and have lots of cuddles. You will also have an opportunity to meet all our other friendly animals whilst you are here.

VALAIS PAMPER SESSION
Come and cuddle the fluffy Valais Blacknose sheep. During your experience you will be introduced to our super friendly Valais sheep Socks and Patches and their friends. They love cuddles and scratches. Help to feed them and check their wool for any twigs and leaves before taking them for a short walk. This is a great opportunity to get hands on and meet a beautiful sheep breed.

PETITE PONY WALK
Meet our cute miniature Shetland ponies Derick and Gloria. They are super cheeky characters and love to spend time with people. Bond with your walking buddy by giving them a brush and cuddle before leading them around the beautiful Welsh countryside.

FELTING WORKSHOP
If you are interested in learning a new skill, create fantastic felted products using traditional skills. Aberhyddnant offer a range of different felting courses using different techniques throughout the year including 3D needle felting, Painting with wool, Felting decorations, Felting a footstool , wet felting vessels and many more. Suitable for beginners and those with some experience working with wool.

STAY WITH US
You can stay right here on the farm. We have two fantastic self catering holiday cottages or visit us between April and October and stay take advantage of being in the dark sky reserve in one of our spectacular stargazing bell tents.

ABOUT ABERHYDDNANT FARM
Since moving to the farm in 1983, the Matthews family has worked towards running a viable farm whilst trying to conserve and promote biodiversity. Aberhyddnant is a 220 acre organic hill farm in Crai producing quality lamb, pork, beef and free range eggs (all available to purchase on the farm). All animals on the farm are reared to strict organic standards where welfare is the highest priority.

The farm is also home to a heard of 20 Murray Grey suckler cows which calve in the spring. The Murray Grey is a cross between two traditional native breeds, Aberdeen Angus and Beef Shorthorn. The cross was made in the valley of the Murray river in Australia and this gives the breed its name.
