About
Following the majestic sweep of Cardigan Bay, the Ceredigion coast section of the Wales Coast Path providers the walker with glimpses of dolphins and porpoise, seals and a host of marine birds throughout the year around.
CEREDIGION COAST
From the dunes of Ynyslas a few mile north of Aberystwyth to the historic market town of Cardigan in the south, walkers experience the Ceredigion Heritage Coast with its picturesque seaside towns and villages and stunning beaches.
Please note that distances are one way unless otherwise specified. Where public transport is shown, this means that the
start and finish points are linked (timetable dependent). The use of www.travelinecymru.wales to plan your journey is recommended.
Aberystwyth to Ynys-las | distance 15.7km (9.8 miles)
This is a section of two distinct halves with Aberystwyth to Borth being a challenging yet popular section of Ceredigion Coast while the section between Borth and Ynys-las is completely flat, with much of it running along the edge of Cors Fochno - Borth Bog. This is an interesting and challenging section with several big climbs. The walk links up the railway stations so that you can let the train take the strain on your return leg. (Train or Bus)
Aberystwyth to Clarach | Distance 2.7km (1.7 miles), grade - moderate
This short section of the coast path passes over Constitution Hill which offers extensive views of Cardigan Bay and Aberystwyth as well as a cafe and the worlds largest camera obscura. If your heading north out of Aberystwyth the cliff railway could take the effort out of a steep climb.
Clarach to Borth | Distance 5.1km (3.2 miles), grade - hard
With several big climbs this is a tough section of the coast path. At Wallog the causeway of Sarn Cynfelin extends for fourteen kilometres offshore into Cardigan Bay.
Borth to Ynys-las | Distance 7.9km (4.9miles), grade - easy
While the route past Borth runs just above the high water mark, the large number of groynes along the spectacular beach to Ynys-las force the coastpath inland. It then follows the flood embankment of the River Leri which provides views over Borth Bog. At very low tide or if you're extremely athletic it may be possible to walk the whole of this section along the beach.
