This 2.5 circular mile walk starts in the centre of Newtown and largely circles around the western boundaries of Newtown. It will take you along the River Severn and has some road and off-road walking.

This walk should take around 2 hours. It is a circular route that starts and ends in the centre of Newtown, mainly along the mighty river Severn and tributary streams together with some road and off -road walking. It returns to town through woods and finally alongside industrial and residential areas. The walk largely circles around the western boundaries of Newtown.

The walk starts under the Town Clock at the intersection of Broad St, High St, Shortbridge St, and Severn St. The Cross Buildings were erected by Sarah Brisco to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Jubilee in 1897. Sarah Brisco, a descendent of the Pryce family of Newtown Hall, presented the clock to the town in 1900.

Opposite the clock on Severn Street is the Robert Owen museum. Robert Owen was the founder of the cooperative movement and is one of Newtown’s most famous sons. The museum also houses the Newtown Tourist Information Centre.

BY TRAIN: Newtown railway station is a 10 minute walk from the town centre. There is parking at the station and taxis are available in the town centre

BY BUS: Newtown bus station is located in the town centre off Back Lane (opposite Argos) with services from/to Shrewsbury, Llanidloes, Machynlleth, Llandrindod Wells, Builth Wells, Merthyr Tydfil, Cardiff, Aberystwyth, Birmingham and London.

BY CAR: A458 from Shrewsbury to Welshpool; then A483.

Accessible by Public Transport: Newtown station is 0 miles away.
