About
Drovers Retreat is a sympathetically converted and eco stone barn. It lies above a medieval Drovers road, hence the name, on the edge of Radnor Forest in Welsh borderlands of Mid Wales. It offers a secluded get-away with beautiful 4-star self-catering accommodation for up to 4 people. The rural location is ideal for couples, families, nature-lovers, walkers, cyclists and dog-lovers.
You can walk or cycle the green lanes, forest tracks and footpaths; listen to the sounds of nature and livestock, or just breathe the clear upland air. Red kites and buzzards circle above on the thermals with their evocative cries, whilst sheep graze in the fields below. The property is certified a Silver Award by Green Tourism.
The accommodation has two bedrooms (1 double + twin), bathroom with shower and bath and a travel cot and high chair are available. The living room has a vaulted ceiling, a log burner and a dining area.
Pets Welcome
Well-behaved dogs are welcome up to a maximum of two dogs, for which there is a charge per dog per stay. Please note that the area is predominantly sheep farming country and we advise that you keep your dog on a lead when out and about.
Games Room
The adjacent games barn is a large traditional stone and timber barn which is available for table football, snooker and darts, and leads to an outside seating area amongst the trees.
Walking Trails
From the front door of Drovers Retreat are superb walks - long or short depending on what you are looking for. Several official walking trails are only a short distance away, including Offa's Dyke Path and Visitors Centre which can be found at the nearby market town of Knighton (9 miles). Glyndwr’s Way also passes through Knighton. You can pick up both trails from other access points closer to Drovers Retreat.
The Heart of Wales railway, which runs between Shrewsbury and Swansea, has a station two miles from Drovers Retreat at Dolau, between Llanbister Road and Penybont, and a Heart of Wales Trail has been developed for visitors to the area by train.
Drovers Woodland Walk
Enjoy the Drovers Woodland walk, where you can unpeel its history, whilst children and dogs can explore the regenerating wild area.
