About

Ideal family ride on quiet roads near the river with small picnic site and a children's playground in Llangammarch Wells. NOTE: Extra loops on this route contain a footbridge and a footpath. You do not have a legal right to cycle on these and you should dismount and walk

1. (00km) Start from the square in Llanwrtyd Wells with your back to the Neuadd Arms Hotel. Go L past the Tourist Information Centre and FORK R towards the railway station. Keep onto the T-junction at 1.0km (0.6m) then KEEP R and follow the road to Cefn Glancamddwr.

2. (5.0 km/3.1m) Here you have the choice of cutting your ride short by taking the track to the RIGHT via Glancamddwr, down to the River Irfon, walking over the footbridge and back along the opposite side of the valley. Otherwise carry on bearing R at the next junction at 5.6km (3.5m) to Llangammarch Wells.

From the centre of Llangammarch Wells you can take a detour to the Barium Chloride Wells (these were thought to be beneficial for treating heart disease and were visited by Kaiser Bill at the turn of the century) by following the road round to the L and up the hill out of the village towards Brecon. About 1km (0.6m) east beyond the village, near Cefn Serwydd, a signposted footpath leads L down to the dilapidated Pump House. Return to Llangammarch Wells. A small picnic site on the R adjacent to the river provides a good place to stop and there is children's playground almost opposite.

3. (6.6km/4. 1 m) Follow the road out of the village towards Cefn Gorwydd, keeping the River Irfon on your R. At the x-roads just past Cefn Gorwydd at 11km (6.8m) TURN R and stay on this road all the way back to Llanwrtyd Wells.

NOTE: About 1km (0.6m) after leaving Llangammarch Wells, at 8.4km (5.2m) you can TURN L to extend your ride by about 2km (0.6m). This road involves a sustained climb of about 3km (2m). At Cynala, 11.5km (7m) TURN R to meet the original route at the X-ROADS just past Cefn Gorwydd. 13.1km (8m). Go SO towards Llanwrtyd Wells.
