The iconic masonry arch spanning the road was built by Thomas Johnes of Hafod in 1810 to mark the Golden Jubilee of George III. This corner of the old Hafod estate offers a range of trails to suit all tastes.

The three walking trails through mixed woodland provide excellent views over the Cambrian Mountains and Rheidol valley. All three are waymarked and start from the Hafod Arch car park. They are circular trails and they all return to the car park past a bench in a glade of huge beech trees.There are picnic tables on the grassy slope by the car park, overlooking the arch.

HAFOD ARCH WOODLAND TRAIL (1 mile, 1.6 kilometres).
The Arch Woodland Trail winds its way uphill, passing through several areas of broadleaved trees.

THE PWLLPEIRAN TRAIL
The Pwllpeiran Trail gives an insight into the cultural landscape and heritage of the area with good views of the Upper Ystwyth Valley and the Hafod estate.

PANORAMA TRAIL (1mile, 2.1 kilometres, moderate)
After a short but steep climb through heather and bilberry, you’ll reach the viewpoint with bench and panoramic views over the surrounding hills as far as Snowdonia National Park. The trail continues down steps and returns to the car park through areas of huge beech trees. The viewpoint from the Panorama Walk has far-reaching views.

OTHER ROUTES
The Cambrian Way passes by the Arch car park. This long distance trail crosses some of the highest and wildest parts of Wales on its journey from the coast at Cardiff to Conwy.

DARK SKIES DISCOVERY SITE - Milky Way Class
The Hafod Arch has been designated as a Dark Sky Discovery Site providing excellent Dark Skies however trees can cause obstruction to views on all horizons. The 18th century stone arch makes a stunning foreground for photos of the night sky above.

PICNIC AREA
There is a picnic area adjacent to the car park.
